UPDATE: Feds trying to determine Lejeune exposure rates

A meeting of a Community Assistance Panel to discuss historical Camp Lejeune water contamination held at UNC Wilmington closed on an emotional note, as former base residents shared their own stories of disease and hardship following their time living aboard the base.

USMC pulls controversial water contamination booklet

Marine officials confirmed this week that a much-disputed pamphlet describing the history and effects of Camp Lejeune contaminated water had been pulled from the Marines’ official website.
The 33-page illustrated glossy pamphlet was published last July by the Marine Corps and sent to every member of Congress, then posted on the page dedicated to Camp Lejeune water information on Marines.mil.

ATSDR to hold Lejeune contaminated water forum

The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry will hold a public information forum about its ongoing activities at Camp Lejeune on Wednesday, July 20 at the University of North Carolina Wilmington.
ATSDR is conducting several activities related to Camp Lejeune, including a nationwide health survey of 300,000 former residents of Camp Lejeune and Camp Pendleton. ATSDR officials hope that everyone who receives a survey will return it in order to assure comprehensive results.

For years, the Marine Corps kept this secret, blocking many attempts to uncover the truth--even after the first news of water contamination broke in 1987.
