Let’s get to work
We need a conservative outsider to hold government accountable

A recap of this weeks highlights from the campaign

Taxpayer Financing of Campaigns

As you know Rick Scott stands with conservative leaders in his opposition to taxpayer subsidized political campaigns, something Jeb Bush has called "welfare for politicians.” Bill McCollum is once again on the wrong side of an important issue to both conservatives, and even his own campaign leadership. As he gears up to use already scarce taxpayer dollars to fund his campaign, he is asking the state to scale back.

Read what McCollum's campaign leadership and GOP leaders have to say about taxpayers' funding politician’s campaigns?.

Rick filed suit in court this week to seek relief from a Florida law that violates his rights under the 1st and 14th Amendments. The conservative US Supreme Court recently agreed with Rick's position in a similar case from Arizona.

Even though Bill McCollum claims to be a fiscal conservative and tells the people of Florida to “tighten their belts”, he has no problem spending tax payer money on his floundering campaign. Even Bill McCollum’s supporters agree with Rick’s stand against public campaign financing.

Immigration/E-verify

Gallup released a poll Friday regarding public support for President Obama’s suit against the Arizona immigration legislation saying that only 1/3 support and almost 1/2 oppose the suit. See the poll results.

Rick has been outspoken on this issue supporting Arizona’s immigration legislation while Bill McCollum continues to flip flop his position on the issue and opposes bringing the Arizona law to Florida saying that such a law is not needed.

This week, McCollum, in another ‘Me Too’ moment, attempted to follow Rick Scott’s lead on immigration and fell short. Last Thursday, Rick Scott announced that as Governor he would work to require all Florida employers to use the free E-Verify system to ensure that their workers are legal.

527’s

Bill McCollum continues to violate election law by refusing to disclose contributors to the 527’s he is using to attack Rick Scott. He initially lied to voters by denying any involvement with the organization and since his admission, he has refused to share who else has contributed to the attacks. It is a violation of Florida election law to not disclose contributors to 527 organizations. Read our press release here.

Primary Debates

Our campaign announced on Friday that an agreement had been reached on a pair of debates between Bill McCollum and Rick to be held the first week of August. With the GOP primary is just over a month away, Rick is glad McCollum finally accepted his challenged and is anxious to debate the issues that matter to Floridians so that you have a clear choice on election day.

The first debate to air on television will take place in Tampa on August 5th and will be broadcast live by Fox13. The second debate will take place in Miami and is scheduled for broadcast by the host Univision, on August 7th.

Video

From the Greer scandal to his illegal fundraising, Bill McCollum has spent his entire political career avoiding accountability, and it looks like it continued this week with his economic press conference. Bill McCollum can’t answer questions on his economic plan because he is less concerned with solutions and more worried about perpetuating his political career. Perhaps he is just waiting for Rick Scott to come up with specifics so he can follow suit with a watered-down version. Watch the video here.

Campaign Stops

Rick visited the Little Havana activities center in Miami where he served food, played dominoes and danced with the locals. Watch his Salsa dancing skills!

He also made stops in Bradenton, Sarasota and Palm Beach where he shared his story to all of living the American dream. Read the press coverage.

This week, Rick will attend Tea Party forums and Republican club meetings across Florida, such as Monday's Tri County Tea Party, the S. Florida Tea Party in Boca Raton on Tuesday, the Peace River Republican Women's Forum in Punta Gorda on Wednesday, and the NRA Meeting in Tallahassee on Friday.

Please make sure you attend and meet Rick as he travels to spread his message of transparency and accountability to Floridians hoping to elect new leadership in Tallahassee!
