Letter from Mr. Miller

Dear Mrs. Hayes,

Thank you very much for contacting my office regarding watercontamination at Camp Lejeune. I appreciate you taking the time to let me know your opinions on an issueof such importance to you and your family.

H.R. 1742, the Janey Ensminger Act, wouldmake a veterans' service connection presumptive for any illness associated with contaminants in the watersupply at Camp Lejeune.  It would also make family members who resided at Camp Lejeune during the contaminatedtime period eligible for hospital care, medical services, and nursing home care through the Departmentof Veterans Affairs (VA) for any condition or disability associated with exposure to such contaminants. A similar version of the bill, S. 277, passed the Senate Veterans' Affairs Committee in August of 2011.

As Chairman of the House Veterans' Affairs Committee, I amworking with my Senate counterparts to finalize a comprehensive veterans' benefits and health bill thatincludes the Camp Lejeune water contamination legislation.  I hope to bring forward a bill that can passboth chambers of Congress and be signed into law so that veterans receive the care they deserve.

Thank you again for your e-mail.  If you would like to receivefurther information on issues of importance to you, please log on to my website at http://jeffmiller.house.gov/. As always, please contact my office if you have any further concerns.

With warm personalregards, I am

Sincerely,
Jeff Miller
Member of Congress
