New Happenings on Camp Lejeune Water Contamination- A call for ACTION

New Happenings on Camp Lejeune Water Contamination

Suffer in Silence no more~

It's well worth sharing after such a long time hearing not a peep.

This is a call for action~ Help your service members and their families.

Call your Senators! Call the White House!

So here is the scoop I got tonight from Mike Partain on his live feed:

The Department of Justice has decided they want to offer all of the Veterans and families who were at Camp Lejeune a whopping $50,000 settlement compensation per family member. They would like us to be included in a Federal Tort claim. The 2015 SCOTUS CTS Corp V Waldburger decision blocked all federal tort claims but the PACT Act would remove those blocks.

The Pact Act is going before The US Senate directly and they will be taking a vote on whether or not they will pass this.

It is highly important to contact your State's Senators and the White House to get the Pact Act passed.

The Bill - H.R. 3967 117th Congress (2021-2022)
Passed House (03/03/2022) now in the hands of the Senate.

The Summary

Honoring our Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics Act of 2021 or the Honoring our PACT Act of 2021

This bill addresses health care, presumption of service-connection, research, resources, and other matters related to veterans who were exposed to toxic substances during military service.

The bill provides eligibility for Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) medical care, including mental health services and counseling, to veterans who (1) participated in a toxic exposure risk activity (a qualifying activity that requires a corresponding entry in an exposure tracking record system), (2) served in specified locations on specified dates, or (3) deployed in support of a specified contingency operation.

The bill establishes the Formal Advisory Committee on Toxic Exposure to assist with the various procedures in establishing or removing presumptions of service-connection.

The bill modifies or establishes the presumption of service-connection for certain conditions or purposes for various groups of veterans.

Among other requirements, the VA must

  • provide a veteran with a medical examination regarding the nexus between a disability and toxic exposure risk activity if a veteran submits a disability compensation claim for a service-connected disability with insufficient evidence,
  • incorporate a clinical questionnaire to help determine potential toxic exposures as part of the initial screening conducted for veterans with a VA primary care provider, and
  • establish a registry for current or past members of the Armed Forces who may have been exposed to per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances due to the environmental release of aqueous film-forming foam at a Department of Defense location.

"URGENT NEWS FROM ED BELL: This is very important. On the Bell Zoom Call now. Ed has reported that the Dep of Justice are trying to block the Camp Lejeune Justice Act and remove it from the PACT ACT and create a NO Fault settlement fund. We have been advise to call the White House every minute of the day 202-456-1111. If we do not fight for this we are going to loose the Camp Lejeune Act. The PACT ACT will more than likely be passed and we will be left out in the cold"

5/7  I'm sorry that I missed the Zoom meeting today.  I made a lot of calls last week.  This afternoon an aide from Senator Tillis's office returned my call, which I appreciated.  I asked what progress the Camp Lejeune Justice Act was making in the Judiciary Committee and I was told to go to the Congress.gov website.  I asked if, when this bill goes to the Senate floor, will it be it be a stand alone bill or part of a bigger package?  Again, I was referred to the website. I was told though that there are two more Senators leaning our way, so that is welcome news.  I'm surprised that Senator Tillis's office didn't have any other relevant information to pass along at this time.

Note: On one hand, at least the DOJ admits liability, on the other hand it isn't much as far as compensation. For a comparison, the fund set up for the 911 victims was substantially higher, in the 2 million range. The $50,000 is hardly enough to pay for many who are having major medical issues. Chemo and other treatments aren't cheap, I hear from other posters. There is also no word on if there is a "release of further claims" attached to this bill for illnesses you may have in the future. For some $50,000 is a good chunk of change, but for some it barely covers the expenses they have already accrued and continue to with medical care and medications. It is quite literally a slap in the face to the families of Camp Lejeune.
If you are like me, it's been a long battle over my lifetime to understand why I was as sick as I am. I now know what caused me all these issues and taken from me was the ability to have a family and years of suffering with other illnesses.Thankfully I haven't suffered like my siblings with rare diseases, and all those suffering in silence, not knowing why they are sick and those already lost to us. They deserve medical care, and fair compensation and frankly if they can pay out 2 million for 911, they can certainly take care of your medical needs and give you just compensation. Veterans deserve better treatment than they are given. Their families should not be forgotten. Where are this nation's priorities? Use your voice and make those calls and write emails and letters to your State Senators. It takes very little time to express to them that what the DOJ has to offer isn't fair compensation for all who have suffered and died. How many do not even know about the contamination? Raise awareness wherever you go. There are signs available at one of the links above. One of the coordinators of the May 19th Awareness Day. They can point you in the right direction at least.
Get involved for yourself and your family. Speak up and ask politely for them to consider a better deal for all of us. Let's get the Pact Act passed in Congress as soon as possible. The DOJ would just like all of us to go away. We are, of disease and illness, but not fast enough I guess. Do not allow them to put out pennies in comparison to what they shovel out to foreign governments and illegals runamok in our country. Stand up, shout out and be heard. Thanks much for supporting our cause! I will update when I get more information. Please research yourself and get all the info you can gather and be sure to share with your friends and families.
