Honor Their Service- update

Mousedroppings-

News about Move America Forward’s upcoming Troopathon continues to spread quickly—especially with the help of Fox News and the powerful conservative blog community.

Fox News’ “Red Eye” featured Troopathon co-host and “Red Eye” regular Andrew Breitbart Monday night. Impressed by what Andrew had to say about our upcoming Troopathon, “Red Eye” then invited Melanie Morgan to appear on the show Tuesday night. Melanie’s segment covered many exciting details about the Troopathon and you can check it out on our website here.

And not to be outshined by Fox News—we’re proud to announce that esteemed bloggers and fellow troop supporters Michelle Malkin, Ron Winter, Matt Lewis, Ed Morrissey and Robert Spencer will appear on the Troopathon. The influence of these bloggers is undeniable and we believe their participation indicates that “Honor Their Service” is a real web event with a strong online presence!

But, if we’re going to send the largest shipment in history to our brave troops serving in harm’s way, we’re still going to need more help to spread the word! Please check out our banner ads here and post one to your blog.

Lastly, stay tuned as we prepare to launch of our blogger care package competition. To increase your involvement in this year’s Troopathon we will be hosting a blogger referral competition to see which blog’s followers contribute the most for care packages. Teams will be established and prizes will be awarded!

We will continue to keep our website http://www.troopathon.org/ updated with the latest on this great event. Thank you! Erica Anderson Move America Forward eanderson@moveamericaforward.org (916) 441-6197, ext. 315

Bachmann Blog:The 535 New Directors of GM

Bachmann Blog : News & Views from Minnesota Congressman Michele Bachmann
Posted by: Michele Bachmann at 11:48 AM

One of the many problems with the federal government controlling a private company like GM is that each Congressman in Washington will be looking our for their own state or district's interests -- even if that works against the interest of the company they are running.

Take, for instance, Massachusetts Congressman Barney Frank. Congressman Frank put a call into GM CEO Fritz Henderson on behalf of a GM distribution center in Norton, MA that was slated for closure as part of GM's restructuring plan. After talking with the Congressman, the decision to close the center and put about 90 people out of work was reversed. I'm not faulting Barney Frank for his actions--no Representative wants to see closures in his or her district, but this exemplifies how unsuited the federal government is in running private enterprise.

Here's what the Wall Street Journal had to say about it:

"Mr. Frank's spokesman, Harry Gural, says the Congressman discussed, among other things, 'the facility's value to GM.' We'd have thought that would be something that GM might have considered when it decided to close the Norton center, but then a call from one of the most powerful Members of Congress can certainly cause a ward of the state to reconsider what qualifies as 'value.' A CEO who refuses the offer can soon find himself testifying under oath before Congress, or answering questions from the Government Accountability Office about his expense account.

"Not only will decisions like plant closures be made now by politicians – politicians vulnerable to political influences particularly when they’re up for re-election every two years – but so will such decisions like what kind of technology to use in manufacturing.

In a great editorial by the Washington Post this week, GM's New Owner: What kind of deal did you get?, the editors write:

"In practice, the political manipulation of the company has probably only just begun; Democratic Rep. Eliot L. Engel (N.Y), for example, has declared that the government should require GM to install "flex fuel" technology in its cars. If GM still isn't profitable enough to attract private investment a couple of years from now, the pressure will be intense to shovel even more public money into it. Administration officials say they hope and expect that this $30 billion for GM will be the last. But they don't promise, because they can't."

We need to take a good hard look at this government power grab. Not only is it unprecedented and unconstitutional, it will ultimately prove disastrous.

House Bill 685, Educational Dollars for Duty Program, which expands the educational benefits available to Florida National Guard Members in return for their service.

House Bill 635, Military Affairs, which strengthens legal protection for Florida’s National Guard members in the workplace by affirming their right to re-employment and fining any employers who discriminate against individuals on the basis of their Florida National Guard service.

Minnesota Independent: Bachmann renews ACORN attack with new bill, petition

Rep. Michele Bachmann ramped up her campaign against ACORN on Thursday with the introduction of a bill and the initiation of a petition. Both aim to pressure Congress to ban ACORN from receiving funding from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), an aim critics say is way off base.
Bachmann introduced the Taxpayer Protection and Anti-Fraud Act, which would prohibit any organization that has been indicted for violations of state or federal election laws from getting HUD money.

Update: Deadline set in banned Bible study case

Update: Deadline set in banned Bible study case

The sequence of events developed this way.
"On April 10, 2009, Good Friday, a female county employee came to the Joneses' residence. The county employee appeared in the front yard and proceeded to take pictures of our clients' home," the letter said. "She noticed the Joneses' daughters in the front yard and asked to speak with their mother. Although she did not provide any paper work or identification, subsequent information obtained by the WCLP leads us to believe that the county employee who went to the Joneses' residence was Code Enforcement Officer Cherie Cham."
"Do you have a regular weekly meeting in your home? Do you sing? Do you say 'amen'?" the official reportedly asked. "Do you say, 'Praise the Lord'?"
The pastor's wife answered yes.

Cap and Trade and a Value Added Tax

--Mouse droppings - Repeal the 16th Amendment!

Breaking News - Could There Be a VAT in Your Future?

Things are moving pretty quickly in Washington these days.

Here is a Washington Post headline called "Once Considered Unthinkable, U.S. Sales Tax Gets Fresh Look."

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/05/26/AR2009052602909.html

To summarize, the President and Congress are considering a VAT (Value Added Tax) that might coexist with some changes to the income tax.

Here's what the Post says about a VAT.

"A VAT is a tax on the transfer of goods and services that ultimately is borne by the consumer. Highly visible, it would increase the cost of just about everything, from a carton of eggs to a visit with a lawyer. It is also hugely regressive, falling heavily on the poor."

While the increase in retail price is highly visible, the actual tax is not because a VAT is embedded into the price of the goods or services as they move through the manufacture or delivery process. So the price you pay will be high, but you won't know how much of that price is the VAT. Just as you don't know how much of the prices you pay today are the result of income, payroll, and other taxes and tax compliance costs of the businesses that create and sell what you buy.

Investor's Business Daily was right on top of this story with a poll.
http://www.ibdeditorials.com/Polls.aspx?id=328320428336434

But when do politicians listen to polls that they disagree with?

Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) was bold enough to state on the Senate floor during the TARP debate in September that her office had received over 85,000 calls from constituents running 95% against the bailout, yet she voted for it, because she knew better.

Look at Congressman Henry Waxman. With encouragement from the president, he is going full bore to get a Cap and Trade bill onto his desk despite similar polls showing vast disapproval of the idea.
http://www.ibdeditorials.com/Polls.aspx?id=327111385953165

When you look at these polls, you'll see that about 10% to 15% (look at the "Not Sure" percentages) of Americans are clueless or uninformed about their government.

Cap and Trade and a Value Added Tax are both targets that the TEA party movement must address.

The possibility of an income tax and a sales tax should have the entire country up in arms.

Al Gore and Co. Must be Stopped

*Posted as a concerned citizen who believes in this cause. If you do, please donate and pass along the information.
Gore must be stopped, he must not be allowed to steal generations of income.
SAY NO TO GORE. WRITE YOUR CONGRESSMEN! TELL THEM NO, NO AND HELL NO!
Mouse droppings-
From American Solutions-
Congressman Henry Waxman is trying to finish his "Cap and Trade" Energy Tax bill by today, in order to have it ready for a full vote by Memorial Day.

And as Politico reports, he's had a "hidden helping hand" this week from Al Gore.

They write that Gore has "mobilized his green grass roots, marshaled his well-endowed lobbying organization and even personally called Democratic committee members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee."

So, we're launching a nationwide "Stop the Energy Tax" campaign to stop this.

It's been estimated that the Waxman energy tax bill would raise an average family's annual energy bill by $1,500, and destroy 1-3 million jobs per year, over the next 15 years.

Can you afford to pay $1,500 more a year for energy?

Our "Stop the Energy Tax" campaign is how we can fight back, but the first step is launching it.We need to raise $100,000 in the next two days, so we can set up a rapid-response operation, create internet ads, and deliver your petitions to Congress.

Think about this - you are one of 1.3 million people getting this email today. If 10,000 members chip in just $15, we'll beat our goal.

Can you make a secure donation right now for $15, $25 or whatever you can afford? If so, here's the link to contribute:http://www.americansolutions.com/contribute/index.php?id=70180000000JAdi&section=energytax

A generous donor has agreed to match up to $100,000 in online donations. Your contribution today will have double the impact in stopping this massive tax increase.

We can have a "Full Power" American energy policy that produces more energy here at home while protecting the environment. This will lead to more jobs and a more prosperous America.

Thank you for what you're doing.Your friend,

Newt Gingrich, General Chairman, American Solutions for Winning the Future

P.S. Remember, a generous donor is standing by to match your donation if we can reach $100,000 in the next two days. If we can get this campaign rolling, we'll be able to take this fight to Rep. Waxman and Al Gore, and all those who would punish the American people with higher energy taxes. Click here to make a secure donation of $15, $25, or whatever you can afford.

Barney Frank Lies About ACORN

The American Spectator : Barney Frank Lies About ACORN

By Matthew Vadum on 5.21.09 @ 6:07AM

House Financial Services Committee chairman Barney Frank (D-Massachusetts) lied to Lou Dobbs on national television the other night but no one seems to have noticed.

On the May 18 edition on CNN's Lou Dobbs Tonight, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minnesota) said she was worried about the fact that ACORN and other organizations would "have access potentially to $8.5 billion" in federal funds.
