Florida Governor Charlie Crist signs bills for Wounded Warriors!
There were four bills to benefit Florida’s military and veteran community. The bills included:
Senate Bill 316, High School Diplomas/Vietnam War Veterans, which granted the Florida Commissioner of Education the authority to grant high school diplomas to Vietnam veterans who were unable to finish high school because of their military service.
House Bill 509, Veterans, which waives several permit fees for disabled veterans undertaking safety and accessibility renovations to their homes; removes the cap on license tag fees that assist Florida’s Veterans Nursing Home Trust Fund; and integrates the new national GI education benefit into Florida’s laws.
House Bill 685, Educational Dollars for Duty Program, which expands the educational benefits available to Florida National Guard Members in return for their service.
House Bill 635, Military Affairs, which strengthens legal protection for Florida’s National Guard members in the workplace by affirming their right to re-employment and fining any employers who discriminate against individuals on the basis of their Florida National Guard service.
